Spark Email
Spark is a cross-platform email client for Mac, iOS, Windows, and Android by Readdle that uses AI to prioritize your inbox, enables team collaboration with shared drafts and inboxes, and offers a clean snooze-and-schedule workflow.
Our take
Spark occupies an interesting middle ground: it is free enough to replace an email client for individuals, and collaborative enough to replace a shared inbox tool for small teams. The free tier is genuinely functional — Smart Inbox, unlimited accounts, and basic AI features are available without paying anything. The team features (shared drafts, internal comments, team inboxes) make it the only cross-platform personal email client that blurs meaningfully into lightweight team email management.
The honest caveat is Spark 3’s mixed reception. The AI-first redesign in late 2023 drew criticism for performance and stability issues, and the G2 rating (3.5/5) reflects a group of power users who preferred Spark 2’s simpler approach. The App Store score (4.6/5 across 3,200+ ratings) tells a different story — Spark remains popular with the broader user base.
What stands out
My Writing Style. After you use Spark for a few days, the AI Compose feature analyzes your sent emails and matches your phrasing, register, and sentence length. AI-generated drafts feel notably less generic than those from tools that use a one-size-fits-all tone.
Smart Inbox categorization. Spark automatically separates Personal emails, Newsletters, and Notifications into distinct piles. Unlike most priority inboxes that bury categorized messages, Spark makes all three piles visible and navigable, so nothing actually disappears.
Team collaboration at a personal-client price. Shared Drafts let two people co-author an email before it sends. Internal comments live inside email threads. For a startup or small agency where five people share a support@ address, this is meaningfully cheaper than Front or Missive.
Where it falls short
The transition from Spark 2 to 3 was rough for a vocal subset of users who valued the lighter, faster original. If you use Spark today you are getting the AI-forward version, which is heavier. The pricing is also EUR-denominated, which is a minor friction point for US or UK users tracking costs in their local currency.
Who should pick Spark
Pick Spark if you want a free or affordable email client on Mac, iOS, Windows, or Android that grows with you into team collaboration. It is the right choice for freelancers, startups, and small teams who want shared drafts and a smart inbox without paying Front prices.
